The Application Process

The scholarship supports programs of study in advanced manufacturing, welding, CNC and machining, mechatronics, robotics, engineering, and industrial technology. Residency or location requirements may apply depending on program guidelines.

Eligibility, Awards & Process

The J. Michael Bernard Memorial Scholarship for Advanced Manufacturing Careers is open to high school seniors pursuing education and training in advanced manufacturing and technical career pathways.

Eligible applicants include Michigan high school seniors and students enrolled in technical schools, community colleges, universities, and individuals seeking skilled trade certifications. 

Award Details

Value: $1000  

Usage: 

Tuition, books, fees, and “gap” costs (transportation, tools for trades). 

Application Review Process

Application reviewers:
3-person team from LIFT Talent division

The application has 6 questions for respondents, scoring rubric below:

Provides a sophisticated and direct response to the prompt

Celebration Event

Recipients will be recognized during in-person events held in Detroit, MI featuring representatives from the ALMMII Board of Directors, LIFT Leadership and staff, and industry leaders.

The evaluation committee will be led by CEO, CFO, and CWDO along with LIFT Education & Workforce Development leads
